Equality and Diversity Training for Legal Services Training Course

Equality and Diversity Training for Legal Services

This in‑house training course provides legal service firms with clear guidance on their equality and diversity duties under the Equality Act 2010 and the SRA Standards and Regulations. It supports solicitors, barristers and legal professionals to embed good practice, strengthen compliance and promote fair, inclusive working environments.

In‑House vs Open Courses

In‑house courses are private sessions delivered exclusively for a group of people from your organisation, on a date that suits you, with the option to tailor the content to your staff and setting.

Open courses are public Equality and Diversity UK training dates that anyone can book onto, ideal when you only need training for one or two people.

Introduction

Legal service providers have specific responsibilities under equality law and professional conduct regulations. This course helps firms understand their obligations, strengthen organisational culture and ensure that staff behaviour aligns with both legal requirements and professional standards.

It is aimed at solicitors, barristers and legal service companies who work directly with the public and are bound by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations introduced in November 2019.

SRA Code of Conduct

The SRA Code of Conduct is split into two separate codes — one for individuals and one for firms. Both sit within the broader SRA Standards and Regulations package introduced in 2019, replacing the former SRA Handbook.

Structure of the Modern Rules
  • SRA Code of Conduct for Solicitors, RELs and RFLs: Applies to individual authorised persons including solicitors, registered European lawyers and registered foreign lawyers.
  • SRA Code of Conduct for Firms: Applies to SRA‑authorised businesses, focusing on governance, management and business controls.
  • SRA Principles: Seven core ethical and professional principles underpinning both codes, including obligations relating to colleague behaviour and workplace culture.

Legal firms must comply with equality legislation — including the Equality Act 2010 — as well as the conduct duties contained in the SRA Code of Conduct.

Areas for Delivery

The training course contains six core delivery areas:

  1. Why equality and diversity matters in legal services
  2. What the law and code of practice require
  3. What this means for your business
  4. Practical tips to help staff meet their responsibilities
  5. Further information and guidance
  6. Interactive activities and case studies
