Reasonable Adjustments Training Course

Reasonable Adjustments

Failure to make reasonable adjustments is one of the most common forms of disability discrimination. This course provides practical guidance to help delegates understand what reasonable adjustments are, how they support disabled staff and how they can be implemented effectively. Through real examples, reflective discussion and clear strategies, delegates learn how adjustments improve engagement, wellbeing & productivity while reducing legal risk. The session strengthens confidence, awareness and inclusive practice across all sectors.

Reasonable adjustments ensure disabled employees can access work, perform their role and participate fully in workplace life. When adjustments are not made, individuals may face barriers that affect wellbeing, confidence and performance. This course supports delegates to recognise these barriers, understand legal responsibilities and identify practical adjustments that create fair and supportive environments. It is suitable for managers, supervisors, HR professionals, business owners, employee representatives and individuals seeking to strengthen inclusive practice.

Scenario 1: Physical Barriers

An employee struggles to access a workspace due to mobility needs.

  • Recognising environmental barriers
  • Identifying practical adjustments
Scenario 2: Neurodiversity Needs

A colleague experiences sensory overload or concentration difficulties in busy environments.

  • Understanding cognitive barriers
  • Supporting flexible working
Scenario 3: Hidden Disabilities

An employee with a long-term health condition requires adjustments to workload or hours.

  • Recognising non-visible needs
  • Creating supportive dialogue

Reasonable adjustments are central to creating inclusive workplaces where disabled staff can thrive. Reflection helps delegates explore how workplace systems, communication styles and everyday expectations may unintentionally disadvantage individuals. By examining real examples, delegates gain insight into how barriers arise, how adjustments remove those barriers and how proactive support strengthens wellbeing and performance. This reflective space encourages individuals to consider their own assumptions, understand the diversity of disability and recognise the importance of early, supportive conversations. It also highlights the legal responsibilities employers hold under the Equality Act 2010, including anticipatory duties and the need for fair, consistent decision-making. Through guided reflection, delegates develop confidence in identifying appropriate adjustments, engaging sensitively with staff and contributing to a workplace culture where inclusion, dignity & accessibility are prioritised.
